SUMMER EXPLORERS PROGRAM 2022

WHAT IS THE SUMMER EXPLORERS PROGRAM?

This award-winning 5-week summer day camp is designed for children with mild to moderate needs who want to have a fun and memorable summer camp experience in a safe and friendly environment. Our enthusiastic and dedicated staff of trained special educators are here to support each child's unique needs and help them to thrive this summer. Kids will have opportunities to explore the community through structured outings that are designed to engage students in experiential learning, as well as promote social-emotional wellness and teach practical community safety skills. WHAT WILL PARTICIPANTS DO EACH DAY?

The Summer Explorers Program provides participants with the opportunity to experience new and interesting places in their community, while developing social and community safety skills. Participants are split into two groups, based on developmental age. While the schedule is much the same for both groups, our younger participants will often take different outings than our older participants, based on the needs of the individuals in the groups.  Our older/ middle school participants will focus on issues that are unique to them, with more structured opportunities to develop independence and navigate more complex social situations.

WHAT ABOUT COVID-19 AND SAFETY?

  • Last year, all participants and teachers were required to wear masks when indoors and when not eating or drinking. We will assess the situation as we get closer to the date and determine best practices based on guidelines from public health officials.

  • Social distancing will happen as much as possible, and activities will take place outdoors when possible.

  • Hand washing and sanitizing routines are built into the day, particularly around lunch/snack times.

  • Our staff are fully licensed Master teachers with current CPR/First Aid training. Our teacher to student ratio is maximum 1 to 5, so you can rest assured your child will be well cared for during each day.

  • We also build in routines to help children practice healthy hygiene habits, use the restroom at regular intervals, drink plenty of water, wear sunscreen each day, and to self-advocate when they need support.
