OUR STORY

Master Degrees in Education prepared Corey & Elizabeth for the challenges they would face in the classroom, but it was their experience working as educators that opened their eyes to a much greater need within education. Years of experience working with students with different challenges and families with unique needs taught them an important lesson: Academic success is heavily dependent on the structures, routines, and supports that are provided both at school and at home. Parents are rightfully concerned about supporting their child’s success and are searching for effective guidance and support on how best to do so. The 'idea' for Hopkins Education Services was born from this need of parents to want MORE for their children.

With over a decade of experience working as an educator in Colorado, Corey has been involved with a wide range of challenging scenarios that have limited a child’s success in school. Corey saw success in his career, but was yearning for something more fulfilling. As he served numerous families within public education he realized that his compassion, talents, and expertise would create a more positive impact for families and the world if he ventured off to independently serve families as an Individualized Education Coach

Joined by his partner, Elizabeth (who is also a Master teacher of nearly a decade), Hopkins Education Services is taking a new approach to education by focusing on a child's strengths and building upon them. HES takes a compassionate approach to assessment, planning and goal development. We work differently from other education consultants because we integrate mindfulness and leadership training into our services to build confidence and success in our client's life, empowering them. We believe this is the formula to transform potential into success.

Corey and Elizabeth strive to effectively empower parents and youth to be powerful advocates for themselves. They do this while creating a deeper family bond among all members. 

At HES we provide a secure and comfortable environment for families to voice their feelings and concerns regarding their family/children.  This openness allows our coaches to use their intuition and expertise to develop a custom, comprehensive plan to support each child and family on their journey toward happiness and success.

Corey has been referred to as, ‘The Autism Whisperer’, by school psychologists with whom he has worked. Fellow educators describe Corey as compassionate, detail-oriented, and professional. Elizabeth's success has come with making connections with kids, honing in on their needs and strengths, all while building self-confidence.

While living their passion serving families as Individualized Education Coaches, Corey and Elizabeth ensure all voices are heard, understood, and supported.  At HES we believe that by collaborating openly and maintaining a compassionate and flexible mindset, we can develop essential routines, plans, and goals that families and individuals will readily embrace and implement with ease.

Elizabeth Hopkins

Summer Program Director

A co-founder and owner of Hopkins, Elizabeth is a former K-8 teacher specializing in literacy, English as a Second Language, and Gifted and Talented education. She enjoys collaborating with parents, students, educators and community members to ensure every child has a positive and meaningful educational experience. Elizabeth also directs the Hopkins Summer Explorers Program each year. Elizabeth’s preferred mindful activities include birding, hiking, writing music  and singing with friends.

Stephanie Jankovich

Stephanie brings over a decade of special education experience to Hopkins Education Services and truly connects with kids while accelerating student learning.  Ms. Stef makes sure that learning is fun, engaging and targeted.  She helps to encourage students to try their best, be mindful of their work and emotions, and learn to advocate when back in class. Stephanie specializes in working with students with special needs including ADHD and ASD. Stephanie’s preferred mindful activities are cooking, reading, and spending time with her family.

Stephanie Stiner

Meet Stephanie, a Colorado native and special education teacher and coach.  Stephanie has worked in education for over 10 years, and there’s nothing else in the world she would rather do! Helping kids is her passion, especially children with special needs. She understands the importance of building rapport and trust with students. Stephanie’s preferred mindful activities are spending time with her boyfriend, traveling, being outdoors, skiing, hiking, camping, paddle boarding and gardening. She also loves taking her cute pup, Zorra, with her everywhere she goes.

Lauren Fine

As an experienced teacher, founder, instructor, manager, coach and problem solver with 15+ years’ experience in the education and non-profit sectors- Lauren's focus has always been on educational equity. She operates with a deep knowledge of K-12 education, start-ups, human-centered design as well as social innovation. Her strengths are in relationship building, investing key stakeholders, program development, strategic planning, and facilitation. She is deeply passionate about educational equity, innovation, and leadership development with a keen interest in supporting the whole child. Her teaching years were focused on elementary school and her nonprofit work has supported learners K-12.

Dana Wade

M.Ed Curriculum and Instruction, Differentiated Instruction

Individualized Education Coach

Dana has spent the past 10 years teaching 1st and 3rd grades and coaching other teachers in the Denver metro area. She is an experienced educator who has supported students and other educators, and has much experience as a one-on-one tutor. Her favorite part about teaching is the relationships she builds with students that encourage them to take risks without fear of failing. Dana connects with kids by getting to know their interests and the daily happenings in their lives. Mindfulness activities she enjoys are baking, cooking, spending time outdoors, and being with her family.

Jo Levey

Originally from Los Angeles, Jo taught yoga to kids and families for over 10 years before moving into trauma-informed Special Education. She loves working with kids of all ages but has a special place in her heart for sassy tweens and teens. She enjoys building relationships with students and families and problem-solving as a team by getting to the heart of the struggle, serving as a positive role model and providing unconditional support and encouragement. She’s a self-proclaimed word nerd and spends as much time as possible outdoors, walking, hiking, swimming and exploring the local flora and fauna. She also loves listening to podcasts, cooking and, of course, practicing yoga!

Corey Hopkins

Corey worked in special education as a case manager and educator for nearly 15 years before co-founding Hopkins. He is also a trained Mindfulness Educator through Mindful Schools. Corey works to provide students of all abilities with a positive educational experience based on the individual needs of each student. He strives to empower parents and youth to be powerful advocates for themselves. Corey’s favorite mindful activities are gardening, spending time in nature, and taking weekend trips to New Mexico to enjoy the culture and cuisine.

Jamie Gerard

Jamie has spent the last 15 years teaching - mostly mathematics, but has taught all subjects and all grades in various settings. Jamie loves teaching because she loves helping students find success and grow academically as well as personally. She enjoys getting to know her students and their families and recognizes the importance of strong communication between home and school. She loves people so teaching is so much more than just a job to her!  Jamie’s favorite mindful activities include being with family, biking, visiting the ocean, and playing/coaching/watching sports.

Jessica loves supporting learners of all ages to become confident and capable readers, writers, and communicators and has a passion for language and literature. After over 15 years of K-12 teaching in public schools, Jessica recently took a break from the classroom to homeschool her son, an English language learner originally from Ethiopia. She believes in personalizing learning, and seeks to partner with families through the coaching relationship. Jessica’s favorite mindful activities include getting lost in a good book, blogging, movie and pizza nights with her family, and going to the theater.

Cristen McCool

M.Ed Education, MSOL

Individualized Education Coach

Cristen is a current special education teacher  working with students on literacy, mathematics, executive functioning, behavior, and classroom supports. She believes that every single person can continue to learn and grow throughout life when his or her strengths are acknowledged and utilized.   Outside of her teacher-life, she is a wife and mother of 4 kiddos (14, 16, 19, and 20) and 2 puppies (a pyrador & a terrier). Her preferred mindful activities include kayaking, hiking, camping, and pretty much anything outdoors on warm, sunny days, and skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and pretty much anything outside on cold, winter days.

Jess Garay

Jess is an educator with 13+ years of experience supporting child development and advocacy with a focus on math and reading literacy. She loves teaching because of the looks on students' faces when it all suddenly comes together and clicks for them. Jess is especially excited when a student who previously shared how much they dislike math says how much they love math! She is truly honored to be a part of a child's education and development. She connects with children by building authentic relationships. Her preferred mindful activities include camping, hiking, reading, puzzling, being with family & friends, and seeing live music. She also enjoys taking walks, practicing yoga, and being outside.

Christeen Leal

Christeen has worked as a Special Education Teacher and Instructional Specialist for 8 years, supporting students in math and reading interventions, and social-emotional learning. She is currently running a business with her husband, The Sensory Club Denver, a sensory gym for all ages with disabilities. Christeen loves using her creative talents and out-of-the-box thinking to make learning personalized, fun, and unique for each person she works with. She enjoys any outdoor activity with her husband and dogs, football, soccer, and board games.

Wendy Nettleton

Wendy has spent the last 20 years pursuing her passion of teaching and working with students to help them succeed in school and life.  Teaching is one of those careers where relationships and trust between teacher and student are necessary and important.  Being relatable, honest and encouraging ensures student success - and success is different for every student.  Wendy wants students to believe in themselves and know that they are capable of achieving their goals without the desire to "give up" along the way.  Wendy believes that showing students that learning is fun and that it connects to our everyday life should be the goal of every teacher!

Meryl Duguay

Meryl Duguay is owner and founder of Duguay Educational Consulting and Advocacy, where she works closely with the Hopkins team to support families as an expert, guiding and empowering them to advocate for their child’s individual needs. Meryl is passionate in her belief that accessing appropriate curriculum for all students is at the core of our democracy. She is a seasoned negotiator in developing pathways to achieve desired outcomes for students and their families. Meryl’s preferred mindful activities include spending time with her family and entertaining with her friends.
